WWII CONVOY and Encampment - POC
T-5 Bob Buker
from the Eisenhower Farm in Gettysburg, PA to Emmitsburg. MD and back
Want to have more fun with your WWII MV soft-top, armored wheeled vehicle or motorcycle? Are you tired of parking
your MV all day at an event, not being able to drive it except to and from your trailer?
Would you like to ride along and participate in a WWII vehicle convoy?
Join the 4th ID MP Platoon and Combat Team Baker in the
final dash from the Seine to the Rhine. It is late August, early September 1944 and with the collapse of the German front,
jubilant troops are anticipating an early end to the war as they liberate villages, drink lots of wine and bivouac in open
fields while guarding the Commanding General, Dwight D. Eisenhower.
We will be hosting an Allied
ETO Military Vehicle Convoy and camp from the Eisenhower Farm in Gettysburg, PA to liberate Emmitsburg MD and back to
the Farm.
Check out the May 2008 issue of MVPA's magazine, "Supply Line", with an article by Pat Nicholson
who attended last year's convoy. Special thanks to Rick Fulton, of the Gettysburg Times, and Cathe Curtis, of www.paleoplstic.com, for providing the funding for the faux champagne and wine with period labels.
Departure from Eisenhower Farm is 0830 on the 19th, returning 1130. Check-in opens on Saturday at 0600.
Friday night camping is available at the Eisenhower Farm. Vehicle activities available on Sunday.
Please note that Pre-registration is REQUIRED by September 5 (see below for pre-reg
info) in order to allocate men and equipment in the vehicles as well as the food.
On the way to Emmitsburg on Saturday, we may be ambushed before we liberate a "French village" where the villagers
will pass out French bread, wine and champagne to the liberators. We'll spend the afternoon and night of the 19th
as well as the 20th at the home of our Commanding General, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Participate in an on-going living history
encampment representing the men and women under Ike's command during WWII. The time frame of the convoy/camp will be August/September
1944.
On Sunday, we'll stay on-site at the Eisenhower Site to participate in the living history program and period
vehicle games and activities.
Your CCKW, WC or ton and a half participation is particularly appreciated for the gear and Reenactors to ride
along but all WWII dated Allied motor vehicles are welcome. Individuals or Unit Commanders, please contact
me. If you have a WWII airplane, please feel free to flyover if possible around Gettysburg. Check out
